Samatha meditation based on breathing mindfulness.

Samatha/calm meditation practice is a gradual, gentle, and effective way to train the mind, leading to inner strength and tranquillity. From this basis, we can explore the nature of ourselves to develop awareness and insight/vipassana. This path from calm to insight was followed by the Buddha himself. The practice is based on his teachings of mindfulness of breathing.

From time to time, when the mind becomes calmer and steadier, we may see more clearly and deeply what might be disturbing our well-being and peace. Maybe if we wish to reflect and contemplate on the ups and downs in life, or the meaning and purpose of our life … or whatever we want to look into further with a steady heart.

The Class

Classes will include instructions on the meditation technique and some theory to support the practice. There will be a chance to have group discussion, as well as to talk one-to-one about your meditation.

You can join any time – no need to book, just turn up and try it. If you would like to sit on the floor, please bring a cushion with you; otherwise, chairs are available.

Classes will be on Monday evenings at 7 pm during school term times only, starting from Monday 12th October, at 7 Grove Street, BA26PJ

Teaching is given freely. Donations to pay for the hire of the room and keep classes going are welcome.
