St Helens, Merseyside
Welcome to the St Helens meditation group.
Samatha means calm. Samatha meditation is an effective but gentle way of training the mind to develop inner strength and freedom from turmoil, leading on to clarity and understanding.
The Meditation class is held every Wednesday night 7.30pm, starting 28th February 2024. The friendly class teaches a traditional breathing meditation technique together with gentle mindfulness exercises, and it is open to everyone whether you have any religion or belief system or none. All are welcome to come along and join in.
In addition to the group meditation session, there are regular opportunities for a one to one discussion with the teacher regarding the development of your individual meditation practice.
We also give weekly talks on a wide range of Buddhist subjects along with talks and discussions on many other traditions and belief systems. Both meditation and mindfulness methods are used as tools for helping us to meditate, to manage the challenges of everyday life, such as stress, anxiety or anger, and to learn to develop both calm and inner strength.
No experience is needed for Meditation. Loose, comfortable clothes are recommended.
We hold the classes in The Gate Lodge, Victoria Park, Rutland Street/City Road, St Helens WA10 2BW
Beginners are welcome to join at any time.
The teaching is free but donations towards room hire are appreciated.
Please bring cushions to sit on unless you prefer a chair, which is provided.
